The Professional code of the Life Insurance Association
As a member of The Personal Finance Society, we have a duty and a responsibility to ensure that our conduct will not bring the Association or our profession into disrepute. It is our personal responsibility to :
- Fulfil the financial planning needs of our clients to the best of our ability.
- Maintain our clients' confidences, whilst adhering to the letter and spirit of applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide service to our clients and their beneficiaries with no undue delay.
- Adhere to professional standards of conduct in advising our clients for their protection and attainment of financial security objectives.
- Avoid any action likely to prejudice the financial well-being of our clients.
- Present accurately and honestly all the facts essential to our clients' decisions.
- Co-operate with others whose services are related to meeting the needs of our clients.
- At all times conduct our business to a high professional standard.
As part of our professional commitment we make this code available to our prospective and existing clients. In so doing we are subject to the rulilngs of the Ethics Committee of the Life Insurance Association in respect of our membership, which it is important for us to retain. The code does not detract from, or affect the right of an individual to make applications to the appropriate financial adviser, product provider, Ombudsman or regulatory organisation: these routes should in fact be the first approach for an individual who has a problem.
